Detoxing daily may sound challenging, but you may already be doing some things that help you to get rid of toxins in your body. One of those things is sleeping!

Did you know that:

  • Most of your body’s detoxing takes place at night while sleeping
  • Your brain flushes out toxins while you sleep
  • Cellular repair and re-building, including muscle happens mainly while you sleep

Of course, getting a good-night’s sleep most nights is healthiest.  If you live in a hard, challenging place, a good-night’s sleep can be more difficult. Some barriers to a good night of sleep are:

  • Chronic stress and worries
  • Uncomfortable bed
  • Poor sleep position
  • Too much late nighttime on electronic devices
  • Physical illness or condition that interferes with sleep
  • I could go on…

If you want to work on detoxing daily more effectively, here are some first steps toward a better night of sleep:

  • Set regular bedtimes and wake times
  • No TV/Computer or other electronics with a bright screen 1 hour before bedtime
  • Use the nightshift function on electronics (reduces blue light on the screen)
  • Drink calming tea in the evening (chamomile or other sleep-promoting teas)
  • Practice deep breathing such as the 4-7-8 breathing technique
  • Do some gentle stretching
